Paneldes Classes

General

Paneldes has in built electrical knowledge on how to construct, report and process the different types of component you will be placing on your raceway and panel models. However, the construction of the models is done with AutoCAD 3D polylines and other AutoCAD entities - which have limited graphical CAD based intelligence attached. To make your models intelligent Paneldes attaches and maintains an EXTENDED ENTITY data record of data to all components constructed. This record contains information such as:

  • Tagnames and location names.

  • Specification information (make, model number, price etc.).

  • Physical specifications (parametric construction information).

  • Class information (the type of component).

Class Information

Class information attached to all components, is used to define how the component will be constructed, reported, interference checked, connected during cable optimisation etc.

E.g. A DEVICE will not form part of a raceway network, but will be connected to any raceway network constructed.

The behaviour of the Paneldes package is heavily influenced by the CLASS specification of the components it is analysing.

The Classes

Class NameDescription
AREAA Paneldes area is a rectangular frame which can optionally have side plates for mounting components on.
PANELPaneldes supports multiple types of panels. All of the types have a panel frame, mounting plates for attaching components and a door.
MOUNT and DOORBoth mounts and doors are called plates. You can attach components to both items.
DEVICE and ACCESSORY

Devices represent any device of instrument on your model. e.g. a circuit breaker or fuse.

Accessories represent any non-electrical components that you want to place into your model. e.g. vents, handles or glands.

An accessory can be a gland or represent a routing termination point if using the appropriate subclass.

TERMTerminals represent a single strip terminal (or a conductor bar if using the appropriate subclass)
SCREWMounting screws for components.
DUCTINGDuct lengths are straight lengths of raceway which are designed to go inside panels and carry wires.
DUCTREDDuct reducers are similar to duct lengths but are tapered.
DUCTCNRDucting corner segments.
DUCTRSRDucting vertical corner segments.
DUCTTDucting T-Sections.
DUCTXDucting X-Sections.
CABTRAYStraight lengths of cable tray which are designed to go in the plant and carry cables.
TRAYREDCable tray reducers are similar to tray lengths but are tapered.
TRAYCNRCable tray corners.
TRAYRSRCable tray risers.
TRAYTCable tray T-Sections.
TRAYXCable tray X-Sections.
TRENCHStraight lengths of trench which are designed to go in the floor of a plant and carry cables.
TRENCHREDTrench reducers are similar to trench lengths but are tapered.
TRENCHCNRTrench corners.
TRENCHTTrench T-Sections.
TRENCHXTrench X-Sections.
CONDUITStraight length of conduit designed to carry cables in the plant or wires in a panel.
CONDREDConduit reducer.
CONDCNRConduit corner.
CONDRSRConduit riser.
CONDTConduit T-Section.
CONDXConduit X Section.
TRANSITRectangular or circular frame that carries cables through a sealed penetration in walls, bulkheads, cabinets, and similar.

Catalogs

Classes must be entered in Catalog specifications located in the Paneldes catalogs. This allows selection of a specification during construction.

E.g. If a catalog record contains a class of PANEL, when you are picking an enclosure specification from the catalog, you will be offered the catalog record.

Parametrics

Whenever construction is done, a pre-defined set of fields, of the catalog/extended entity data are required for each class. These fields will contain data such as RADIUS for cylindrical items, WIDTH and HEIGHT for rectangular items. The parametrics are defined in the component dimensions section.

Naming Sequencer

Classes are used to identify and specify Tagname formulas for components.

e.g. You may have a formula for PANELs which differs from the formula for DEVICEs.

Naming sequencer usage.

Reports

Different classes may appear in different reports.

Global editing

You will be offered groups of similar classes to edit when doing mass data editing for your models with the Global Editor
