How to route cables by manually assigning a route

For any cable you can specify that it will be routed through a named and ordered set of raceway segments that you dictate. This effectively allows you to manually route any cable or set of cables. This is the primary method of routing cables when performing cable routing without a model (Modelless Cable Routing).

To achieve this you must build a new PARTIAL raceway group with the intention of converting it to be a COMPLETE route when you have prepared it.

To achieve this you prepare a suitable raceway group (select all of the trays of the route and set the order) and then assign it to the desired cables, which will run the auto router to check the route and calculate fills and lengths (and issue any warnings created by the operation).

When you are ready, Cable Scheduler will convert the partial group to a complete group (route), lock the selected cables to it and then run the auto router to check the route and calculate fills and lengths and issue any warnings created by the operation.

Procedure

  1. If you do not already have a suitable Raceway Group, add a new one.

  2. Add all of the segments of the route to the raceway group.

  3. Set the order of the segments to be correct.

  4. If the raceway group is not already locked (e.g. it is a partial group), lock the route by right clicking it and setting the status to Locked Route.

  5. Then

    • From the cables that are to be manually routed:

      1. Right click on the cables to be manually routed.

      2. Select Assign manual route... from context menu.

      3. Select the appropriate raceway group for the cables, and click OK.

    • Alternatively, from a raceway group that you wish to manually route cables with:

      1. Right click on the desired raceway group.

      2. Select Add cables... from the context menu.

      3. In the dialog, select the cables to manually route along this route, and click OK.

  6. Highlight the partial raceway group in the raceway groups folder and select the right click option "Force Manual route"

  7. The auto router will now run to check the route and calculate the cable lengths, and then the database will be updated. You will notice that the icon for the cable will change to include a padlock indicating it is now locked to a route.

  8. Cable Scheduler permits you to modify locked manual routes (adding/reording segments), however, routing calculations will not be recomputed unless the route status is toggled away from LOCKED and back again, or cables are added/removed, or until routing for the project is recalculated.

Return a manual route to being a "guide"

You can change the status of a locked manual route back to being a guide by right clicking on the route, and setting the status to Partial Route.

Highlight the complete raceway group in the raceway groups folder and select the right click option "Un Force Manual route"
