How to Configure MTD and Symbol Styles

Elecdes allows you to customize your installation to use an alternate MTD style and symbol style. This option is almost always used with a symbol library.

If you will be creating many of your own alternate symbols then you should consider using a specific symbol style suffix rather than using the default symbol names. This will help you to identify your symbols from the default symbols during future updates of EDS or revisions you may make to your symbols.

Symbol Style Suffix

You can set the type of symbols to be used by Elecdes by filling the Symbol Style Suffix edit box in the Elecdes Preferences.

This setting is blank by default. If you enter a number it specifies the suffix of the symbols to be used. e.g. '006' will cause the symbol 'cro006.dwg' to be used in preference to the symbol 'cro.dwg' when it is inserted from the catalog. The symbol style suffix must be a number and can contain any number of digits.

Certain suffixes are reserved with special meaning in Elecdes: 2 (IEEE/ANSI), 5 (AS1102)  and 9 (reversed symbols). See Symbol File Naming for more details.

MTD Style Suffix

You can set the type of Multi Terminal Devices to be used by Elecdes by filling the MTD Style Suffix edit box in the Elecdes Preferences.

This setting is blank by default. If you enter a value it specifies the suffix of the MTD symbols to be used. e.g. '(XX)' will cause the MTD block 'MainContactor(XX).dwg' to be used in preference to the block 'MainContactor.dwg' when it is inserted from the catalog. The MTD style suffix must begin and end with round brackets but can contain any letters or digits inside the brackets.

There are no reserved MTD suffixes.

Cross Reference symbols

When cross reference information is inserted onto a drawing, Elecdes will attempt to find a cross reference symbol specific to the chosen style. For example, "HXCRC001.dwg" will be used for a standard normally closed relay contact if the symbol suffix is currently set to "001".

If there is no symbol with the specified suffix, then Elecdes will default to the standard cross reference symbol style defined in the Preferences Dialog.

Automatic symbol choice for functions "Insert Subcomp" and "Insert from Catalog"

If a symbol to insert needs to be chosen automatically by Elecdes then Elecdes will attempt to find a symbol specific to the chosen style. For example, "HICRC004.dwg" will be used for a standard normally closed relay contact if the symbol suffix is currently set to "004".

If there is no symbol with the specified suffix, then Elecdes will default to the chosen cross reference symbol style.
