Install Troubleshooting

Dialogs and Demo programs do not fit on your display:

You must ensure you are running Windows with a screen / display resolution of 800 x 600 or greater.

EDS will not run correctly if the resolution is lower.

If you are running Paneldes at the minimum resolution of 800x600 you must also ensure that you select SMALL FONTS in your Windows display properties. Selecting large fonts will increase the size of the dialog boxes used in Paneldes to the point that some of the dialog boxes will not fit on the 800x600 screen.

Tip: You should not run EDS in the EDS program or data directories! Set your working directory to a drawings directory

Size of button text is too large

If the button text for EDS windows does not fit within the size of the buttons then it is likely that you have a high resolution display driver with large fonts option as the default system font.

This can be remedied by running SETUP and selecting a larger font for EDS to match the size of the default system font.

AutoCAD color settings make EDS cad sessions difficult to use:

Inside the EDS AutoCAD session:

  • Select the PREFERENCES menu item, and then select the COLOR option.

  • Set a dark background.

AutoCAD fonts are too large on the command line:

Inside the EDS AutoCAD session:

  • Select the PREFERENCES menu item, then select the FONT options.

  • For FONTS - "ARIAL" is a tidy font and a point size of 7 to 11 is suitable.

AutoCAD starts and no EDS toolbars appear

Select the Toolbars option from the EDS [Paneldes/Elecdes] menu bar item.

AutoCAD starts and no EDS [Elecdes, Paneldes] MENU bar appears

The support paths are set incorrectly, see EDS Settings for AutoCAD.

This can usually be remedied by running SETUP again.

AutoCAD starts and then disappears, without warning, during EDS start up

AutoCAD, fresh out of the box, will store its large SWAP file in the current working or drawings directory. If this directory is on a drive with limited space then AutoCAD will stop.

This typically happens when drawings are stored on a network server.

To correct the problem:

  • Set the drawings directory for Elecdes/Paneldes to a drive with more than 500MB of free space with the EDS SETUP program. [e.g. C:\DWGS ]

  • You should then use the AutoCAD PREFERENCES command to set the TEMPORARY FILE LOCATION path to a LOCAL PC directory, such as C:\TEMP, on a drive with more than 500MB of free space.

  • After this is done you may restore the EDS drawings directory to the drive with limited free space with EDS SETUP.
