How to Configure Automatic Wire Numbering

Automatic Wire Numbering

You can specify the ordering priority when automatically numbering wires as well as the position that the wire marker is inserted.

Wire markers are placed on the upper or leftmost end, of the longest of the set of line segments representing any single conductor. The marker symbols are placed at a pre-defined distance from the end of the line segment.

If the length of the destination line segment [for the wire marker] is less than 2 x the pre-defined distance one of two things will happen:

  • If the Use Leaders option is on then a wire leader symbol will be used instead of the normal inline symbol.
  • If Use Leaders is off then the inline marker will be used but the positioning of the wire marker will be adjusted to attempt to fit the wire marker on the line segment.

If the Use Leaders for all wires options is on then wire leader symbols will always be used for autowiring.

Unnamed wires (line segments) are named, in sequence, beginning with the lines at the top left of the drawing. By default, the uppermost lines are numbered before lower lines. This is configurable.

  • The default value is Number Across then Down. This causes the uppermost lines to be numbered first.
  • If the value is set as Number Down then Across, then leftmost lines are numbered before uppermost lines.

When wires pass through terminal strips you can choose either to have a new wire name, or to continue with the same wire name on the other side of the terminal strip. Choosing the Auto wire changes at Terminal Strip option will mean a new wire name is used each time a wire passes through a terminal strip.

Procedure

  1. Choose Preferences from the Elecdes Menu. You will be presented with the Elecdes Preferences Dialog.

  2. Go to the Cables/Wires tab page

  3. You will see the Automatic Wire Numbering group box shown below

  4. To specify the numbering priority change the radio button to the appropriate scheme.

  5. Within the edit box, you can specify the pre-defined distance, from the end of the wire.
