Extra Parts Editor

Overview

Extra parts are a mechanism that allows (typically electrical) components to specify other (typically non-electrical) components that they require. For example, a device may specify the screws it requires for mounting, or a raceway segment may specify and bracket and lid. Any extra parts specified are then included in the Bill of Materials.

Extra parts are specified in using an EXTRAPARTS specification in the AUX4 catalog column (or component attribute).

Extra parts specifications can be configured manually, however, the Extra Parts Editor dialog (described below) offers a more user-friendly configuration method, and can be invoked from convenient locations in EDS procedures (such as as the Raceway Insertion dialog in Paneldes).

Extra Parts Editor Dialog

When the Extra Parts Editor dialog is invoked, it will read any existing EXTRAPARTS specification from the current/selected component, and load any specified extra parts into the dialog for modification.

Current Configuration

The current configuration of extra parts is represented at the top of the dialog, and automatically updates in response to changes made to the parts list below.

When the dialog is closed (via the OK button), this configuration will be saved into EXTRAPARTS specification of the AUX4 attribute of the component from which it was initially loaded.

Parts List

The parts list shows a tabular view of the current configuration of extra parts, as well as confirming the type and status of each extra part (for example, whether the catalog entry for the extra part exists).

Extra parts can be added or removed from the list, using the buttons at the bottom of the list. Selecting a part from the list will allow you to edit it using the controls to the right of the list.

Note: The order of parts in the list is inconsequential.

Adding an Extra Part

To add an extra part, use one of the Add buttons below the parts list:

Add

Adds a regular extra part from the Catalog.

A catalog selection dialog will be shown, allowing you to choose the desired part.

Add Lid

Adds a raceway segment lid. Only available when configuring extra parts for a raceway segment.

A catalog selection dialog will be shown, allowing you to choose the desired raceway lid. If you cancel the catalog selection dialog, a graphical lid will be added (specified as an extra part, and drawn on a model, but does not add anything to the Bill of Materials).

Add Hookup

Adds a Hookup diagram that specifies extra parts.

A DWG file selection dialog will be shown, allowing you to choose the desired hookup diagram.

Remove

Removes the selected extra part.

Editing an Extra Part

To modify an extra part, select it in the parts list, then use the controls in the Edit Selected Part panel on the right.

Note: The type of extra part cannot be modified once added. To change the type of an extra part, remove it, then add the correct type of part.

Modification Controls

Select from Catalog...

Allows you to pick a different catalog item for the current extra part. If the current extra part was a graphical raceway lid, selecting a lid item from catalog will mean the lid is no longer graphical only (ie it will now create entries in the Bill of Materials)

Select Hookup Diagram...

Allows you to pick a different hookup diagram file for the current extra part. This button appears in place of Select from Catalog when the current extra part is a Hookup diagram

Raceway Lid

Indicates if the currently selected extra part is a raceway lid (read-only).

Graphic Only Lid

Toggles between a graphic lid and a catalog defined lid. When unchecking (ie switching to a catalog defined lid), the catalog selection dialog will be shown, allowing you to choose a lid from the catalog.

Quantity
X extra parts for every
Y (unit count/length)

Quantity settings allow you to specify how many extra parts are needed for a certain number of components or for a certain length. For example:

  • A device may require 4 screws to mount it. So for a Screw extra part, enter 4 extra parts for every 1 (unit count/length)
  • Raceway ladder may require 5 brackets every 2 metres. So for a Bracket extra part, enter 5 extra parts for every 2m (unit count/length)
(both metric and imperial lengths are accepted)

Note: If (unit count/length) is left blank, the extra parts count will be assumed to be per individual component.
