How to Edit Component Ratings
The "edit view" of Instrument Manager displays the contents of the currently selected component or folder in a spreadsheet style row and column editor. In the editor the contents of the records of the database are displayed. This data can be edited directly by clicking into a cell and typing new data.
To switch to edit view, click the editor button on the Instrument Manager tool bar:
Many useful editing functions are provided to facilitate efficient data entry and data modification. These include multi-cell copy and paste, automatic data incrementing and find-replace functions.
Instrument Manager uses some columns in the database tables for special purposes. These columns can be displayed in the editor but the data cannot be altered.
The editor keeps a 100-step undo buffer, so the last 100 editing operations can be undone. Previous operations are undone by pressing Alt-backspace or Ctrl-Z keys.

Tag Data and Ratings Data
If you have selected a component in the tree, you can choose to edit either the tag record or the rating record of the component. The editors on the right of the Instrument Manager window will display either one of these records, but not both.
To edit the rating records of the components, click the ratings button on the Instrument Manager tool bar. To edit the tag records, click the TAG button on the tool bar.
If you have selected a component folder in the tree, then the organisation of the display is different. The top editor will then contain the tag records for the components in the folder. The bottom editor will display the rating records for the components in the folder.
Multiple User Editing
When multiple users are using the same project database, it is possible that they may try and edit the same data at the same time. When a user is editing a cell, then the record it belongs to is marked as locked. If another user tries to edit a locked record, then Instrument Manager will display a warning indicating that the record is locked. You can choose to ignore the locking and overwrite the data, but this procedure is discouraged.
When you begin to edit any cell of a record, the current data for that record is fetched from the database. You can also press the [F5] key to refresh the records that are currently displayed in the list view or edit view.
Select the cell to be edited.
Double click or press the F2 key to begin editing the current cell contents. Or simply start typing to erase the contents and begin entering new data.
Enter the new data for the cell.
Select a different cell to finish editing and save the changes to the database, or
Press Tab to finish editing and select the cell to the right.
Press Enter to finish editing and select the cell immediately below.
Press Shift-Tab to finish editing and select the cell to the left.
Press shift Enter to finish editing and select the cell immediately above.
The Edit commands perform the standard functions associated with changing the contents of the database.
They are accessed via the menu. They can also be accessed from the context menu displayed when the right mouse button is clicked.
Much of the functionality is the same as in Database Editor.
