How to Route to a Device with Undefined Raceway

Field Routing

Rather than routing all raceway from the absolute origin of a cable to the absolute destination, Field Routing approximations can be used.

Field Routing dictates to the raceway / cable installers that they are to install the cable and local conduits on site without a design being modelled. As the final stage of a field routed cable's route is effectively missing, the given Paneldes route will "jump" to a field routed device or panel from the modelled raceway. The final part of the cable length is approximated by the designer.

Procedure

  1. Decide on a jump distance. (Distance from the modelled raceway to the field routed device) e.g. 50'.

  2. Position the field-routed device, within the jump distance to the last segment of raceway that you are going to model.

  3. Using the Global Editor, set the AUX5 attribute of the final raceway segment to the text "FIELDROUTE:".

    This tells Paneldes that this is a "jump out" segment for field routed cables to use.

  4. Using the Global Editor, set the AUX5 attribute of the field routed device (or panel) to the text "FIELDROUTE: 50' ".

    This tells Paneldes that this device's cable can "jump" to a segment up to a maximum of 50' from its location.

  5. The length of the cable will be calculated up to the "jump out" segment and then 50' will be added, even though in the model, the device is closer to the "jump out" segment.

It is recommended that dedicated field routed conduits are placed on the model at strategic jump locations rather than using the major arterial raceways as "jump out" segments. This will give better routing results.

NOTE: In the model, the device must be positioned within the specified field route distance from the "jump out" segment.
