How to use Define a Specific Termination Point for a Cable Inside a Panel

Routing Termination Points define a termination point for a cable that is more accurate or specific than the default of the centre of the panel.

A termination point overrides routing to the centre of the panel for specific cables. This is important when routing to large panels. The default termination point for cables in the centre of a large panel may be too far away from the conduit or tray intended to take the cables. Inserting a termination point insde the panel close to the conduit or tray will reduce the connection distance to within the Device to Duct setting.

The overall cable length is calculated to the termination point. Inserting a termination point can give a more accurate cable length, especially for large panels.

Routing Termination Points provide the following benefits:

  • Route lengths are more accurate.

  • The connection distance to the desired conduit or tray is more likely to be within the Device to Duct setting compared to using the distance to the centre of the panel.

Procedure

  1. Choose the Place Accessory or Place Inv. Accessory entry from the Construction menu.

See How to Place an Accessory for the general procedure.

  2. Set the LOCATION to the name of the panel for which you are defining this routing termination point.

  3. Set the SUBCLASS to TERMPOINT.

  4. Set the AUX3 field to the value "CABLES:" followed by one or more comma-separated cable names. You can use wildcards in cable names.

Or, if the termination point will be used for all cables connecting to that panel, leave AUX3 blank or empty.

You can place more than one routing termination point in a single panel for groups of cables that need different termination points within the panel.
