How to Show or Hide the Symbol Data Dialog

Showing or Hiding the Symbol Data Dialog

When you insert a symbol a dialog is displayed by default for you to enter the data for the attributes of the symbol. You can elect to not have the data dialog displayed, as described below. You can also choose directly on the dialog to show or hide the attribute dialog for each type of symbol, e.g. you could choose to show the dialog for most symbol types, including devices, but not show the dialog for wire symbols and terminal symbols.

  • The checkbox in the preferences, Show data dialog for Tagname and Catalog during insertion described below, sets the default for whether the dialog is shown or hidden.

  • The checkbox at the top right of the dialog itself, Always show data dialog described in the insert procedure, sets the choice for a specific type of symbol. The choice for a specific symbol always overrides the default setting.

Procedure

  1. Choose Preferences from the Elecdes Menu. You will be presented with the Elecdes Preferences Dialog.

  2. Go to the General tab page

  3. In the Insert Symbol Options group box, untick Show data dialog for Tagname and Catalog during insertion to set the default that the dialog will not be shown. Tick the option to set the default that the dialog will again be shown by default.

  4. To remove any choice of showing or hiding the data dialog saved specifically for any particular symbol types, click the button Remove dialog settings stored by symbol type. The next time a symbol is inserted the dialog will be shown or hidden according to your choice in the checkbox Show data dialog for Tagname and Catalog during insertion.
