How to Select Devices and Terminal Strips

The list of devices and terminal strips is on the Main dialog of the Wiring Diagram Generator.

Initially the list will contain all of the devices and all of the terminal strips found in the selected project. Also, any devices that have existing wiring diagrams on the current drawing will be selected.

You will usually need to select and de-select different groups of devices to change the appearance of the wiring diagrams. Eventually you will need to have selected the devices to be drawn.

Device and Terminal Strip Selection Controls

Devices and terminal strips are selected in the list on the right side of the dialog. The controls to the left of the dialog assist with selecting multiple devices and reducing the list to only devices from a chosen panel.

Procedure

  1. Change to the Main dialog of the Wiring Diagram Generator.

    • Click on the tick-box on the left of individual entries in the device list to select or de-select them.

    • Highlight multiple entries and click on the tick-box of one of them to select or de-select the highlighted entries.

    • Click the [*] button, to the left of the list, to select all of the devices.

    • Click the [--] button, to the left of the list, to de-select all of the devices.

    • Click the [Invert] button, to the left of the list, to invert the selection of each device. Devices that were selected will become de-selected and devices that were not selected will become selected.

How to Filter the Device List by Panel

  1. Choose a panel from the panel drop-down list, to the left of the device list.

The contents of the device list will be reduced to only the devices from the chosen panel.

    • Choose the entry In any panel to include all devices from all panels.

    • Choose the entry Not in a panel to include only devices that have no specific panel.

    • Choose the entry None to select no panel and therefore no components.

Use this option to minimise the time to start Wirediag as it will have no devices to load. This option is only useful when it is selected at the end of a session to set the filter for the next time Wirediag is started. See Minimising the time taken to start Wirediag below for more information.

    • Choose the entry Current WD Panels to include only the devices from the same panel(s) as devices already on the current wiring diagram.

Use this option to add further devices from the same panel to an existing wiring diagram and to reduce the time to start Wirediag.

The panel filter is remembered for next time you start Wirediag. However, you can choose to not remember when a specific panel name is chosen for the filter, see Dialog Options.

NOTE: Devices that do not match the panel filter, and are consequently not shown in the list, will remain selected and will be drawn if they were selected before the panel filter was changed.

Minimising the time taken to start Wirediag

If you have a large project then Wirediag will have a large number of devices to load. You can minimise the time taken to start Wirediag using the panel filter.

  • Use either of the panel filters None or Current WD Panels to minimise the number of devices loaded when starting Wirediag.

  • In Wirediag Preferences, remove the option Remember panel for filter, then only the last filter choice of either None or Current WD Panels will be remembered but not a choice of a specific panel name.

  • Once Wirediag is started, choose a specific panel and pick the devices or terminal strips to be drawn.

  • Next time Wirediag starts it will still be using either None or Current WD Panels and will take its minimum time to start.
