How to Preset a Symbol Attribute in the Symbol File

Preset Symbol Attributes

The attributes in a symbol can be preset by putting a value in the attribute inside the symbol file. If you are trying to create a preset attribute you must ensure that the attribute name is not a field in the catalog or the <EDS>RTEMPLATE\template_$* file as this information will overwrite your attribute value if present.

Example Procedure For Making a Preset Device Symbol Attribute

  1. Open the symbol file that you want to contain the attribute

  2. Add the attribute to the symbol e.g. PRESET_ATT

  3. Set the value of the attribute you have just made to the preset value required e.g. PRESET VALUE

  4. Check to make sure the catalog files for this kind of symbol do not contain a field named PRESET_ATT

  5. Check to make sure the <EDS>RTEMPLATE\template_$DEVIC.dbf does not contain a field named PRESET_ATT

  6. Insert the symbol in Elecdes to verify the preset value is retained
