Areva Locales

Introduction

To support the variation in the symbol styles in the Areva library, EDS supports Areva Locales and Continental Relays. Essentially the symbol set is provided in different styles, one for each Areva locale. Each style is identified by a suffix on the end of each symbol name.

The Areva locales and their localisation suffixes currently in use are:

  • 001 / (GB) Areva (common/default), Australia, Saudi, France

  • 002 / (IN) India

  • 003 / (PO) Poland

  • 004 / (US) USA, Canada, Mexico

  • 005 / (MA) Malaysia

  • 006 / (UK) UK

The three digit number is used for standard device symbols. The bracketed letter code is used for MTD symbols. The MTD suffix usually also contains numbers that further specify the appearance of the MTD symbol, for example (11US).

Installation

During the installation of an Areva library, you will be asked to choose location. Otherwise the Areva library is installed using the same procedure as an EDS update.

Setup

The EDS Setup program replaces the Drawing Units choice with a Choose location box. This contains the same locations offered during the installation of the update. You can change your location in Setup.

Symbol sets

Each Areva symbol set contains a variation of the standard symbols, plus specific symbols for specialised relays.

For standard device symbols, the symbol name will be followed by the appropriate three digit suffix for the chosen Areva locale. For example: "HI2COILC003.dwg" for the Areva Poland locale.

For MTD symbols, the symbol name will be followed by the appropriate bracketed suffix for the chosen Areva locale. For example: "KAVR100_VT(11UK).dwg" for the Areva UK locale.

Elecdes removes the localisation suffix for its internal database operations. For the previous two examples, Elecdes will recognise the symbols as "HI2COILC.dwg" and "KAVR100_VT.dwg".

You can check the current standard and MTD symbol suffix in Elecdes preferences. While it is possible to change the suffixes in Elecdes preferences, you should not as they should remain synchronised with the currently chosen Areva locale. The Areva locale should be changed from the main page of EDS Setup.

Cross Reference symbols

When cross reference information is inserted onto a drawing, Elecdes will attempt to find a cross reference symbol specific to the chosen Areva locale. For example, "HXCRC001.dwg" will be used for a standard normally closed relay contact for the Areva UK locale.

If there is no localised symbol, then Elecdes will default to the standard cross reference symbol style defined in the Preferences Dialog.

Automatic symbol choice for functions "Insert Subcomp" and "Insert from Catalog"

If a symbol to insert needs to be chosen automatically by Elecdes then Elecdes will attempt to find a symbol specific to the current Areva locale. For example, "HICRC004.dwg" will be used for a standard normally closed relay contact for the Areva USA locale.

If there is no localised symbol, then Elecdes will default to the chosen cross reference symbol style.

Continental Relays : Areva Poland

The continental relay system in EDS supports an MTD symbol that includes contacts that can be shown elsewhere in the project as separate symbols, thus duplicating the representation of parts of the relay.

Continental relay symbol names

The main MTD symbol for a continental relay will always have the localisation code suffix (nnPOn). To identify a continental relay on the drawing, EDS checks for the "(" followed later by "PO". A symbol with these parts in its file name will be classified as a continental relay symbol.

Alternate subcomponent structure: SUBCOMP1

The device subcomponent structure in the catalog for continental relays varies from that used by other Areva offices. To ensure that all offices can receive the same catalog files, EDS makes use of the alternate subcomponent structure. The SUBCOMP1 column is used for the continental relay structure, and the default SUBCOMP column is used for all other offices. When you select the Poland locale, the catalog setting for the preferred subcomp will be changed automatically to SUBCOMP1.

The subcomponent structure for continental relays has fewer subcomponents because the main subcomponent shows all of the relay parts. A continental relay entry in the catalog will always have a unique main subcomponent, number 0, which has a unique MTD symbol name.

Contact symbols used by both the standard and continental relays are very similar.

Cross Referencing

EDS Cross Referencing produces an alternative cross reference list for a continental relay. The reference list for continental relays is drawn in up to six columns, whereas for standard relays only a single column is used. An alternative reference list header, containing numbered columns, is used for the reference list.

For instructions on modifying the layout of the cross references for continental relays, see How to Change the Reference List Layout for Continental Relays (Ebase).

Wiring Diagrams

The EDS Wiring Diagram Generator will recognise a continental relay. If the wiring diagram terminal layout is to be obtained from the MTD terminal layout, then it will only obtain the layout from the main subcomponent, number 0. The main subcomponent will provide the entire terminal layout for the device.
